Yaksha Head
Keywords: Sculpture
Stone Sculpture
Publisher: Allahabad Museum, Allahabad
Description: The stone sculpture of a human head. Only three-fourth of the head is preserved, the portion beyond the left eye is lost. The face is much worn, but the broad and massive eyebrows, the nose with wide and flaring nostrils, the deep lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth, the heavy jaw, and the bulging eyes with wide upper and lower lids are clearly discernible. The ear has the finlike helix common to Yaksa images of this period. The head is bound by a fillet which paws over the eyebrow. The hair must have been tied in a knot to the side of the head.
