Apart from Karnatak music an outstanding contribution of Maharaja Swati Tirunal is Hindustani compositions.He is the first author to write musical Upakhyanas for Harikatha. He is the first to compose Prabandha and Varna in Malayalam and Ragamalika sloka and pada in Sanskrit.
