Description: This machine actually is a thresher, used for separating the paddy from the straw. Locally it is known as “Dhan Jharai Kall”. The paddy threshing machine has a cylindrical body made from wooden bars horizontally fitted through excel rod. The cylindrical wooden body has pegged tooth made of bented nails. For functioning the cylindrical body is operated by foot through the paddles. By operating the paddles the body rotates at high speed and the paddy bundles are put on bars. The rotation of the bars releases the paddy from the straw and fall on the concave sheet placed with the curve of the cylinder. This type of threshing machine is found all over West Bengal as, is the paddy cultivating state. Although now-a-days such type of threshers are operated through electric motors instead of manual paddles.
