Description: Racially Karbis belong to the Mongoloid origin, while linguistically they belong to Tibeto Burman language group. The karbi call themselves Arieng means man. The Karbis practice both shifting and settled cultivation. They rear cows, buffalo, Pig, Pottery etc. They have tradition of cane and bamboo work, carpentry, blacksmithy, rearing of endi silk worm, spinning weaving also as a subsidiary occupation. The Karbi Settlement is mostly situated at the top of the low hill. Their houses are divided by a partition into two rooms with one portico on one side. The house is divided into a room for outsiders or guests which is on the right side and another which is for the family.
