The dhak is a traditional percussion instrument from eastern India. Deeply associated with Durga Puja and other festive occasions, the dhak is considered sacred and auspicious.

Percussion instrument consisting of a hollow wooden barrel covered by animal hide on both sides. The sides may be laced together with leather straps or cotton threads. Generally played by striking one end with a pair of bamboo sticks. Often decorated with feathers or 'kashphool'- the ethereal flowers of wild sugarcane. A larger variant of the drum is known as Joy Dhak.
