Description: This work of compilation presents an extensive list of ballads belonging to Eastern Bengal. The ballads are believed to cover a period of three hundred years from the 16th century, highlighting the political history of the region. The second volume of this book broadly deals with the ballads of Washer-maiden, Young herdsman, Kanchanmala, ballad of Sati, ballad of Bhelua, ballad of the Santhal insurrection, ballad of Nizam Dacoit, etc. The most prominent feature of these ballads is the presentation of the Bengali women in a variety of aspects. This compilation could be considered a reliable resource to analyze the linguistic peculiarities of these songs, as well as their poetical and ethical value.
