Harsha

Author: Mookerji, Radhakumud

Keywords: Harsa-charita, India, Sanskrit, Classical Literature

Publisher: Oxford University Press, Lucknow

Description: This book was written by Radhakumud Mookerji in the year 1935. It has been said that there are very few rulers whose history is as rich as Harsha. Bana, a writer of great repute in the history of classical Sanskrit, wrote Harsa-charita on Harsa, from the perspective of being his court poet and thus having personal and intimate knowledge of his life and rule. Harsa- charita is one of Bana's very few biographical works, which has been given to Sanskrit Literature. This India is also described by another eye-witness, the famous Chinese pilgrim Yuan Chwang, whose account reads like the Gazetteer in the scope of its inquiry and its wealth of details. The history of ancient India perhaps owes more to Yuan Chwang than to any other individual source, for the reconstruction of some of its lost chapters.
