The musical sruti concept is found in ancient and medieval Sanskrit texts such as the Natya Shastra the Dattilam, the Brihaddeshi and the Sangita Ratnakara. Scale is a foundational aspects of every musical system. Indian music has evolved a theory of the scale in terms of a unitary and basic concept called the sruti. Indian musical theory has postulated the sruti as the scalic unit in laukika (secular) music since at least two thousand years.
