Description: The audio recording is from the archives of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. In the audio recording, Radhika Mohan Moitra plays the sarod in Bageshri Raga of the Kafi thata. In the performance, all the vistaras and tanas are executed by the maestro with finesse and grandeur, thus bringing out the full mood of the raga. The piece was performed in 1957 and he was accompanied by Alla Rakha and Karamatullah Khan on the tabla.
Radhika Mohan Moitra (1917-1984) or Radhu-babu as he was widely known was born in the Rajshahi district of the then East Bengal. He was initially trained in the sarod and sursingar by Mohammed Amir Khan of the Shahjahanpur gharana (school or style) and later by Mohammed Dabir Khan of the Senia gharana. He thus combined the Shahjahanpur and the Senia gharana and composed a new style of music.
