Dr. Kadri Gopalnath (1949-2019) is recognized as a celebrated saxophonist and is one of the pioneers of Carnatic music. He was born in the district of Dakshina Kannada. He was inspired to learn the saxophone when he heard it being played in the Mysore Palace. He learnt to play Carnatic music on the saxophone from N. Gopalakrishna Iyer. He had to make certain modifications to the western instrument in order to play Carnatic music. His unique fusion of the East and the West has inspired and impressed many musicians throughout the world. He has performed in many music festivals at the national and international stage. He has also participated in many important Jazz festivals around the world.
