Description: The video is a presentation on the folk songs of the cultural and physical region of Mithila located in the state of Bihar. This region is known for its rich cultural heritage and is a well-established centre of folk culture. In Mithila one finds co-existence of the two streams; the folk and the Vedas. The songs of the people of Mithila have existed here for so long that they have beautifully merged into the social fabric. Some of these songs are featured in the film include the Lagani song, Sohar (birth song) and marriage songs like the Dahakan song, Bariya song and the Parichan song. The main focus of the film is on the marriage ceremony and the songs associated with it. Some of the marriage songs showcased in the film include the Bhat Khai song which is performed by women during the wedding feast.
