Description: The Union Territory of Pondicherry is close to Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. People here are still connected with their folk traditions and culture. Their folk songs are also similar for centuries. There were three singers in the group of artists who came from Puducherry. E. Maninathan, Semolai Vincent and Devanathan Dharmalingam to accompany them on musical instruments, Durai Swami on Nadaswaram, Mahendran on Pambha, and Paramashivam on Davil. Pambay and Davil are the rhythm instruments. These artists started the program with a welcome song. This welcome song delighted the audience with a sense of happiness. After this, the next song was from the Khetihar community which described how to prepare the field for sowing. The third presentation described love. The plot of this song was a young farmer. The one who falls in love with his maternal aunt's daughter and proposes to marry her. The next performance was also a love song in which the protagonist compares the love of his girlfriend to the birds of his village. Most of the performances of these artists were based on a love theme.
केंद्र शासित प्रदेश पांडिचेरी तमिलनाडु की राजधानी चेन्नई के करीब है। यहाँ कभी रांसीसियों का राजे हुआ करता था। यहाँ के लोग आज भी अपनी लोक परंपराओं और संस्कृति से जुड़े हुए हैं। इनके लोकगीत भी सदियों से एक जैसे ही हैं। पुडुचेरी से आए कलाकारों के समूह में तीन गायक थे। ई. मणिनाथन, सेमोलई विंसेंट और देवनाथन धर्मलिंगम। वाद्ययंत्रों पर इनका साथ देने के लिए नादस्वरम पर दुराई स्वामी, पम्बे पर महेंद्रन और दाविल पर परमशिवम ने संगत की। पम्बे और दाविल ताल वाद्य हैं।
इन कलाकारों ने कार्यक्रम की शुरूआत स्वागत गीत से की। प्रसन्नता का भाव लिए इस स्वागत गीत ने दर्शकों को आनंदित किया। इसके बाद अगला गीत खेतिहर समुदाय का था। जिसमें बुवाई के लिए खेत को तैयार करने का वर्णन था। तीसरी प्रस्तुति में प्रेम का वर्णन था। इस गीत के कथानक में एक युवा किसान था। जिसे अपनी मामी की बेटी से प्यार हो जाता है और वो उससे शादी का प्रस्ताव रखता है। अगली प्रस्तुति भी एक प्रेम गीत ही थी जिसमें नायक अपनी प्रेमिका से प्यार की तुलना अपने गाँव के पक्षियों से करता है इसी गीत के अंत में प्रेमिका अपने पति की और गाड़ीवान अपने बैल की प्रशंसा करते हैं।
इन कलाकारों की ज्यादातर प्रस्तुतियाँ प्रेम प्रधान थीं। जो कभी खेत में, कभी बाग बगीचों में तो कभी गाँव में दर्शाया गया। इन प्रेम गीतों में प्रेमी अपनी प्रेमिका के रूप, स्वभाव और आध्यात्मिक गुणों का बखान करता है। कुछ गीत तो ऐसे भी थे जिसमें प्रेमी अपनी प्रेमिका के दाँतों की जमकर तारीफ करता है। प्रेमिका की पाजेब की तारीफ वाला गीत भी कलाकारों ने प्रस्तुत किया। कार्यक्रम का अंत करने के लिए कलाकारों ने चावल के पौधे को रोपने का जीवंत वर्णन किया। जिसे दर्शकों ने काफी सराहा । नादस्वरम और दाविल के साथ संगत पर नृत्य कर इन कलाकारों ने खूब वाहवाही बटोरी।
