Description: This was the first time in the history of Sanjari that three generations performed together on the same stage. Present on the stage was 73-year-old folk singer Mr. Deshraj G. Lachkani, his son 51-year-old Surjeet Khan and grandson Armaan Ali. Together, these three artists spread the beautiful colours of folk songs. One of the oldest folk arts of Punjab is the singing of ‘Dhadhi’. Along with the singing of ‘Dhadhi’, there is a tradition of story-telling.
This singing style consists of playing the Sarangi as an accompaniment to the rhythm of the ‘Dhadh’. The ‘Dhadh’ is an instrument like the ‘Damru’. During his performance, Deshraj Lachkani and his grandson Armaan Ali were playing the ‘Dhadh’. Surjeet Khan was on the Sarangi. The playing of the instruments while standing, along with singing - this got the audience excited. It was actually the magic of the typical indigenous style and the jingle in the voice of the artists.
After starting the programme with a prayer to Lord Ganesh, these artists sang a song which narrated the story of Puran Bhakta. According to this saga, Puran Bhakta wanted to become a disciple of Guru Gorakhnath. But the other disciples put a condition that he could become a disciple only when he is able to get alms from Rani Sundara. It was known about Rani Sundara that she used to cut the necks of sadhus and saints. So people were afraid to approach her. Puran remembered his guru and went to the Rani without any fear. Rani Sundara was impressed by seeing the handsome personality of Puran. Her anger turned into love. She proposed marriage with Puran, but he declined the offer. Rani Sundara offered many temptations to Puran one after the other. But Puran remained firm on his decision. In the end, Rani Sundara was very impressed by him. Her thoughts were also purified. She arranged a 'Langar' (community meal) for the sages. The entire saga was presented in a poignant manner by the artists.
After this presentation, these artists also narrated the Punjabi love story of Heer Ranjha and the story of Mirza Ghalib with great enthusiasm. There was a great harmony between the three actors during these presentations. Their ‘Aalaap’ singing touched the hearts of the people. It was an unforgettable experience for the Sanjari audience.
संजारी के इतिहास में यह पहला मौका था जब एक ही मंच पर एक साथ तीन पीढ़ियों ने प्रस्तुति दी। मंच पर मौजूद थे- 73 साल के लोकगायक श्री देशराज जी लचकानी, उनके बेटे 51 साल के सुरजीत खान और पौत्र अरमान अली। इन तीनों कलाकारों ने एक साथ लोकगीत की खूबसूरत छटा बिखेरी। पंजाब की तमाम पुरानी लोककलाओं में एक है- ढाढ़ी गायन। ढाढ़ी गायन के साथ-साथ गाथाएं कहने वाली परंपरा भी है।
इस गायन शैली में ढढ़ की ताल पर सारंगी की संगत होती है। ढढ़ डमरू जैसा एक वाद्ययंत्र होता है। अपनी प्रस्तुति के दौरान देशराज लचकानी और उनके पौत्र अरमान अली ढढ़ बजा रहे थे। सारंगी पर थे सुरजीत खान। खड़े-खड़े साज बजाना और साथ में गायन - इस नजारे ने दर्शकों को भाव-विभोर कर दिया। यह कलाकारों का ठेठ देसी अंदाज और उनकी खनकती आवाज का ही जादू था।
गणेश वंदना से कार्यक्रम की शुरूआत करने के बाद इन कलाकारों ने पूरण भक्त की कथा का गीत सुनाया। इस गाथा के मुताबिक पूरण भक्त गुरू गोरखनाथ का शिष्य बनना चाहता था। लेकिन अन्य शिष्य उसके सामने यह शर्त रख देते हैं कि पहले वह रानी सुंदरा से भिक्षा लेकर आए तब ही उसे शिष्य बनाया जा सकता है। रानी सुंदरा के बारे में यह बात मशहूर रहती है कि वे साधुओं और जोगियों के गले कटवा देती हैं। लिहाजा हर कोई उनके पास जाने से डरता है। पूरण भक्त अपने गुरू को याद करके बिना किसी डर के रानी सुंदरा के पास जाता है। पूरण भक्त के सुंदर रूप और व्यक्तित्व को देखकर रानी सुंदरा प्रभावित हो जाती हैं। उसका क्रोध प्रेम में बदल जाता है। वह पूरण भक्त से विवाह का प्रस्ताव रखती है। लेकिन पूरण भक्त उस प्रस्ताव को अस्वीकार कर देते हैं। रानी सुंदरा पूरण भक्त को एक के बाद एक कई प्रलोभन देती हैं। लेकिन पूरण भक्त अपनी इच्छा पर अडिग रहते हैं। अंत में रानी सुंदरा उनसे बहुत प्रभावित होती हैं। उनका मन भी पवित्र हो जाता है। वे साधुओं के लिए लंगर लगाती हैं। इस पूरी गाथा को कलाकारों ने बड़ी मार्मिक तरीके से प्रस्तुत किया।
इस प्रस्तुति के बाद इन कलाकारों ने पंजाबी प्रेमाख्यान हीर रांझा और मिर्जा गालिब भी बड़े मनोयोग से सुनाया। इन प्रस्तुतियों के दौरान तीनों कलाकारों के बीच शानदार सामंजस्य था। उनके आलाप दिल को छू लेने वाले थे। संजारी के दर्शकों के लिए यह कभी ना भूलने वाला अनुभव था।
