Publisher: Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi
Description: The video is a recording of the opening performance of Saptakam, a classical dance programme organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi. Saptakam is conceived to bring out the complementarity that exists between all cultural forms in the Indian subcontinent as it does in the natural world. This conception is reflected in the choreography which brings together different dance forms such as Kathakali of Kerala, Kuchipudi of Andhra Pradesh, Bharatanatyam of Tamil Nadu, Kathak of North India, Manipuri dance, Sattriya dance of Assam and Odissi of Orissa. The dance forms not only come alive on their own but the performances flawlessly flow into one another, as one form makes space for the other.
