Description: The video is a presentation from the thumri festival, Thumri Rang, organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in Kolkata in 2008. The performance is by the Hindustani classical vocalist Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan (1957- present) of the Kirana gharana. He is a direct descendant of the great Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, the founder of the Kirana gharana. He received his training from his father, the distinguished sarangi player, Ustad Shakoor Khan. He is also a music scholar and is known as 'Bandish Nawaz' for his collection of traditional musical compositions or bandishes. He is not only accomplished in the thumri and dadra styles of singing but he also sings khayals in the true Kirana gharana style. In this video, he performs the thumri "Rang Rangili Rasili" in Raga Khamaj which is set to teen tal. He is accompanied by Roopshri Bhattacharya on the harmonium and Gopal Mishra on the tabla.
