Description: The video is a presentation from the festival of music Thumri Rang which was organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi in Kolkata in 2008.
The performers are renowned thumri singers Shanti Hiranand and Purnima Choudhary. Shanti Hiranand (1933- ) was born in Lucknow. Under the guidance of Begum Akhtar, she specialized in the thumri, dadra and ghazal forms. In the video, she performs the dadra, "Tadpe Bin Balam Mora Jiya" accompanied by Ghulam Sabir on sarangi, Ballu Khan Warsi on harmonium and Nawab Khan on tabla.
Purnima Chaudhary (1946-2013) is recognized as an exponent of the Purab Ang and Banarasi style. She was trained in forms like thumri, dadra and tappa. In the video she performs the light classical song with the bols "Na Mane Jiya Mora" accompanied by Roshan Ali on the sarangi and Shubhojyoti Guha on the tabla.
